| Sam and Stotty after a good morning flight in early September 2012
|
As is proving to be the norm' pressures of work mean we are struggling to type up and hand in our wildfowling reports for the website so Sam and I have just put together a quick overview of September and October 2011.
Early season saw us flighting the local Greys and Canada's from a nearby lake and tackling a few Mallard and Teal coming in to our ponds. Dotted in with this we had a few early season trips to the Solway and the Kent Estuary and the highlight of this was hitting on the Wigeon in the first week of the season on the Solway. We had good numbers of Mallard into our own ponds and also picked up some bonus Mallard on Westmorland Wildfowlers marsh at the top end of Morecambe Bay. Teal numbers were good on our own ponds with 150 or so frequently seen on the biggest of these.

October was a "hot" month as we had a call to help keep the Greys off a local estate and we had many mornings shooting them over the deecs. On the shore Sam had a "Red Letter" tide flight with 4 Wigeon and a Pintail. As is the norm we had a few blanks on the shore but time is never wasted at this time of year learning a new marsh, looking out how the gutters have changed or finding a new splash - we did some very good reconnaissance. We continued to get some good nights at Mallard with a few Teal coming in to the bag.
At then end of October Sam and I had chalked up 72 flights and put 55 Greylags, 7 Canada's, 54 Mallard, 5 Wigeon, 1 Pintail and 7 Teal in the freezer.
